This week we return to English Park to take on the University of Canterbury, a well-drilled, fast team that’s had some impressive results so far this season. They’re strong in transition, clinical going forward, and will be looking to test us early, especially on this quick surface.
We come into this match following a tough weekend. The result wasn’t what we wanted, and we know we faced some big challenges, especially with our current goalkeeper situation. But we also know it’s about how we respond, and I saw plenty of signs last week that show there were periods of possession that we just need to convert and find the back of the net.
There were real positives to take away. We stuck to our intent of playing ball-to-feet football and found real success working through the middle. That’s not something we could consistently do earlier in the season, and it shows the progress we’re making. The improvement in first touch was another highlight, a testament to the work that has been put in during training.
We are under no illusions that today will be another test. We know Uni will look to use their pace and get in behind. What matters now is staying switched on, trusting the structure, and doing the simple things well.
Results don’t always tell the whole story. What matters is how we keep growing, how we support each other, and how we build as a team. Let’s take pride in the way we play, back each other every minute.
