Welcome, everyone to this weekend’s match as we travel south to face Otago University AFC in what promises to be a challenging but exciting fixture.
After the disruption of last weekend's flight cancellations, it's great to be back into the swing of the new round. We’re up against a strong Otago Uni side today – currently sitting second on the table and one of the most consistent teams throughout the first half of the season. They’re fast, sharp in transition, and clinical in front of goal. We know they’ll ask questions of us across the park.
For us at Halswell United, the table doesn’t reflect the work that’s been happening within the group. We've been stretched again this week – illness, injuries, and university holidays have impacted our depth, but credit to the players stepping up and I know who will be looking to cement a spot in the 16 going forward. A huge positive is seeing Marita back in the squad. She’s been sidelined since Game One, and her return adds a big lift on the pitch.
Travelling to Dunedin is never an easy day – the long trip, early starts, and the demands of playing away all test resilience. But these are also the games where character is revealed. We're focused on showing progression from our first meeting with Otago Uni and our other round one fixtures. We saw glimpses of what we’re capable of – this time we’ll be aiming to extend those moments, competing over longer spells, and building belief in our own football. We know where we are on the ladder, but we also know what we’re capable of. The second round gives us a fresh slate to keep developing and pushing forward as a group.
