With over half of the Premiership season now behind us, things are really heating up — and the table is getting tighter by the week. For us, it’s one game at a time. Reflecting on last week’s outing against Cash Tech, there were plenty of positives to take forward, and it showed just how valuable the bye weekend was for the group.
We were thrilled to introduce our latest signing, centre back Niraj Basnet, into the squad. Known for his defensive strength and unexpected scoring ability, we didn’t think that attacking threat would show up so soon — what a debut goal!
Also making an impact was Karen Patel, who recently joined us from Lower Hutt FC. After a tough baptism into Christchurch football on the boggy surface of Walter Park against Western, he found his rhythm again on the turf, more like what he’s used to up north. His control and technical quality were key in helping us manage pressure in critical moments.
It’s been fantastic to see Dan Ede, Patrick Cameron, Jacob O’Connell, and Blake Bamford rediscover their attacking form. And with Alex Young showing his striker’s instinct — one chance, one goal — there’s plenty to be excited about heading into the Selwyn clash.
We know Selwyn can’t be taken lightly. On their day, they’re a real threat — look at their results against Christchurch United and Nomads United. We’ll need to be sharp and focused.
It’s also great to see Saturday football alive and thriving across the community. We’re incredibly proud of all our Hawks who took part in the holiday tournaments — the team spirit was on full display, with smiles all around.
A special shoutout goes to our assistant coach, Kevin Peters, who underwent major knee surgery this week. Kevin, you’ve been missed by all of us — we’re wishing you a full and speedy recovery. We’ll be doing our best to deliver a performance you’ll be proud of from the hospital bed.
So, one more reminder — it’s a 12:30pm kick-off, not 2:45! Head on down to Foster Park after your game and lend your voice. Your support means everything to us.
Up the Hawks!
